Straight away my PS3 found the Twonkyvision server and in no time I was streaming audio and video without any problem. Setting this up was really easy and took about 30 mins including the install. I decided to give this a go, it has versions that run on Windows and Unix, I chose the latter for several reasons, first becuase I wanted to play around with Linux, second becuase I had an old dell PC lying arround and thirdly becuase I felt Linux to me more stable for long period of up-time. I did some research on the internet and found a product called Twonkyvision which is a DNLA certified media server that supports PS3, PSP, xbox and a shed load of audio/video formats out of the box. I too am using my PS3 as a Media Client for all my music and video, and was originaly steaming it from my Media Centre PC with the same problem. This post is quite old, but I thought I would share my experinces with you. Posted: Mon 23:16 Post subject: PS3 & Wireless Media / QoS settings Should I/How can i setup QoS if my PS3 address is 192.168.1.5 How can i test if the Wireless Media support is doing what it should? If i copy the file to the PS3 over wireless and then play it, there is no problem. When i stream media to ms PS3 from the PC, it starts and stops. I can't figure out how to setup QoS (or in fact if i even need it). I do hope this is one thing on the PS3 that is improved.I set the Wireless Media Support to default - on My negative I find in the PS3 is that if I try to fast forward a video to quickly it abrubtly ends the stream. And I'm sure MS will watch what formats are supported on the PS3, can't the PS3 have all the fun heh. The only gripe is I wish it showed the video preview of each video. However you can stream and play divx through the 360 dash interface. Divx files for example cannot be streamed through media center on the 360. This means that PS3 owners can have the ability to play more file types and sooner if we let SONY know, versus waiting like we do with the 360.Īctually bud you ahve it backwards. Even though we won't receive as many updates as we have in the past, we will still receive more than 2 per year (one in the fall and one in the spring). However, since the PS3 receives far more frequent updates than the 360, I would have to say that the PS3 is the better media "hub" of the two. I think this is due to the way the length of the movie is entered in the video file but I still haven't figured it out yet. And as of right now, my DivX movies only play the first few seconds of the video. Many6 of my Videos wouldn't play before and they were all MPEG-2, but apparently they weren't all the exact same codec. And as for the file types that they play? Well, as far as I know, they both play basically the same file types, but on the PS3, if the codec used is a variation of the main codec, then the file won't play properly, if at all. However, I haven't really tried doing this on the 360 in the past few months, so maybe if I try it again soon I'll have a different opinion on it. Yea, you don't have to do it this way on the 360, but it was designed to work through Windows Media Center as a Media Center Extender. If you want to stream from the 360 the proper way, you have to do it through the media center. Why is that? In my opinion, it's much easier than using the Media Center on the 360. I personally have both and I must say that I use the media streaming on my PS3 far more often.
